Edo History Today...The Asoro Statue.

    Today we are looking at Chief Asoro... This almost life-like statue was sculptured to the memory of Chief Asoro, a valiant brave man who died resisting the invading British forces during the expedition of 1897.During the siege on Benin, it was said that chief Asoro ably defended the spot where the statue now stands. He said "no other person dare pass this road unless the Oba" (So kpon Oba). It is this statement which has been corrupted to become SAKPONBA.This statue, which is a salute to patriotism and loyalty is located on the king's Square by the beginning of Sokponba Road,Benin City. The spot where chief Asoro have died after fighting bravely.

Edo SUBEB Commences Tree Planting Exercise in Public Primary Schools Across the State

In response to the Green Initiative of the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration, the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has begun a tree planting exercise in public primary schools across the State. The exercise was flagged off by the Chairman, Edo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, represented by Hon. Elizabeth Ighodaro, Board Member representing Edo South, Edo SUBEB,  at Community Primary school, Oredo. Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Elizabeth Ighodaro noted the indispensability of trees to the environment. According to her, "We are flagging of this exercise today in response to Governor Godwin Obaseki Green Initiative which upholds the tenets of environmental sustainability". She noted the determination of the Edo State Government and Edo SUBEB to make public primary schools across the State conducive for learning and make the academic environment a green oasis. Highlights of Back-to-School Rally Organised By Edo State Universally Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Across the State

On Friday, 6th September, 2019, back to school rally was organised by Edo SUBEB across the 18 local government areas of Edo State to sensitize parents and guardians on government's preparedness, and teachers readiness to receive pupils (both new and old) and also begin teaching on the very first day of resumption.  Below are reports from different local government areas:  *OVIA SOUTH WEST* Participants took off from Benin and arrived IGUOBAZUWA, the council headquarter between 8am to 9am for the rally. Four major routes were covered in Ovia LGA. These routes include; the IGUOBAZUWA route, the USEN route, UGBOGUI route and UDO route. Men and materials were deployed to cover these four major routes. Materials made available were banners,  megaphones, vehicles, batteries etc. The following teams honoured the rally invitation: the LGEA's AgSecretary, LGEA's staff which include; the L&D Supervisors, QAOs, SMOs etc. SUBEB and EdoBEST teams were also on ground to supp
